‘Doris’ was purchased by us in June 2013 when it’s previous owners were moving abroad. We are her 4th owners since new and she currently shows just over 98,000 miles which we have no reason to believe isn’t genuine. Doris is finished in baby blue & white and she always gets comments on how beautiful she looks when we take her out for a run or away for the weekend. She has a chrome visor fitted above her windscreen and we have also fitted a chrome step (to aid rear access to her) and a chrome trim to the nose mounted spare wheel along with a new cover.
Doris started life in California (she’s left hand drive) and registered in the UK in Feb 2011. As her early life was spent in the dry heat she is an extremely solid van and since she was given a mild refurb (before our ownership) has had nothing done to her bodywork at all and although she has some minor rust spots she still shines beautifully and it wouldn’t take too much to make her bodywork perfect and if we were keeping her we would be doing this.
Mechanically since owning Doris she has had much work done. Most noticeably a recent new engine (Jan 2016) - she runs well and pulls very strongly and will happily sit at 50-60 mph with no issues at all. She’s also had a new clutch, new battery (a leisure one too) and many items replaced to keep her in good form mechanically. She has a full year’s MOT with two minor advisories of slight play in both rear wheel bearings - we asked whether they should be done and were told with the mileage that we cover they would be fine for quite some time.
Interior wise Doris is finished in matching pale blue leatherette with a rock n’roll bed to the rear along with two lap seat belts. We also have the removable roof bed and small hammock bed which can be fitted over the front seats. She has a single rear facing ‘buddy’ seat (with lap belt & storage underneath). She has modern inertia seats belts fitted for both the driver & front passenger). To the rear we have also fitted two LED interior lights which keep the rear good & bright in the evening. There is a small sink with electrically pumped water from below and a gas hob with two burners (with gas bottle in cupboard beneath) all works fine and is ample for cooking up a full English when camping!
There is additional storage under the main seating and in cupboards to the side and above the rear seating. We have also fitted a modern radio/CD/USB player with two speakers above the driver. To keep Doris safe we have also had a Category 1 Alarm system fitted with a wireless PIR to the rear and remote activation after looking her. We also have a Stopcock Pro Steering lock which will come with her.
Overall Doris is a lovely van and we’re sorry to be letting her go but we’re finding it harder to find the time to use her and we’d like to allow others to have the pleasure we’ve had from her. On the few times we get to use her she is always admired and have loved our weekends away. If you’re looking to kick back and chill here’s your chance.
